Home Equity Line of Credit
Why Chase could soon be loosing my business.
I called Chase Personal Banking for the 3rd time in a month to reverse fees on my checking account. The first two $15 fees involved me going below my minimum allow for my account. The thing is I never had a minimum until I deposited over a certain amount. Once my account hit this level which is somewhere around $2000 my account was automatically upgraded and Automatic Bill Pay was added for free. We’ll the large deposit was used about four days later for some payments for my wedding arrangements. So obviously the account went down well below $2000 just like it used to be. Because my balanced dropped I was assessed a $15 penalty free. I didn’t catch it until the next month therefore I had racked up $30 in charges before I noticed.
I called to request my account be changed back to the free checking I once had, because afterall I didn’t approve any upgrades or changes to my account. There wasn’t any fuss by Chase, but it was still annoying to have to call. So another month rolls by and now I’m hit with two new fees of $4.95, both on the 15th of the month. Once again I called to find out what the deal was. Turns out I somehow got enrolled in Bill Pay and since my mother is also on the account she got enrolled as well. Funny thing is I’ve never had Bill Pay and I specifically remember on the first phone call when the person on the other side said, “Do you use Bill Pay on this account.” My reply, “No, I do not.”. She replied, “Ok, I’ll remove that as well.” I guess she didn’t.
Anyways back to my second phone call. Bill Pay is not free on the free account it’s an added service and free on the account with higher balances. So basically it got added after the first deposit and never got removed after my first call. The guy proceeded to tell me that he needed authorization from my mom the remove the other sign up. So we got busy calling her on three-way to get the matter cleared up. Free reversed all said and done. That was the 24th.
I looked today on the 28th and only one of the fee reversals showed up. So again I call. This time I had the direct number to expedite any problems. Once again I had to call to remove something that should have been removed over a month ago. To make it more entertaining the system check for Automatic Bill Pay at the 1st of the month. Since I called on the 24th I still have to call one more time to reverse the fees from August. Go figure. To top the third phone call the women asks me if I own a home, which I reply, “No.”. She says, “Ok just checking because you are preapproved for a home equity line of credit.”
In other words I’m approved for a line of credit on something I don’t even own yet. Hmmm maybe I should purchase a home so I can face more phone calls on fee reversals from Chase Bank. I think not.
