1. We finished remodeling the bathroom and the upstairs office is actually livable without dust all over our computers.

2. A group of 4 other members and I started a real estate group. It’s all legal with an entity and everything. We’re planning on purchasing or first property by the end of August.

3. A group of 9 other members and I started an equities investment group. We’re meeting monthly to discuss stocks and doing our best to beat the S&P. Our annualized returns are looking pretty good so far. Now we just have to keep up the good work. There are some strong members in the group and I’m learning a lot, so it’s pretty exciting.

4. I did it again, I signed up for another long bike ride. This one is 112 miles on Sept 14th. This one is a fund raider for Children’s Medical Center. Donate!
Is the mythology series over? I look forward to seeing more of his comical social commentary. As a wedding present Howard offered to let us pick one of his pieces as a gift. Once we move into then house we’ll be sure to stop by and make a selection. Thanks for making me laugh Howard.

Ok, so as most of you know I have the capability to host websites. Because I have had numerous friends ask me about hosting I’ve decided to do a friends only hosting setup. So if you want me to host your site sign up on my sister site: HybridFlux.com. I will be charging $6/month to be billed via Paypal.

I’m not interested in being a bulk hoster, but if you are a friend and want your own personal website and custom email then sign up. Once you have purchased your domain, or you want to transfer to me set your DNS entries via your registrar to (The company you purchased your domain/url from):

NameServer1: ns1.hybridflux.com
NameServer2: ns2.hybridflux.com

From there all you have to do is shoot me an email and I’ll set up the rest. I can also help you with setting up a blog, CMS, your email or etc. if you are interested. I may request a small donation to the Pay the Ramick Mortgage Fund depending on the level of your needs. I can also help you load Flickr.com pictures on your site if your into that sort of thing. By default I’m setting up the accounts with 300MB of space. Don’t worry about the bandwidth limits and etc. If your site gets to the point of needing more we’ll discuss the subject in more detail. For most you’ll never be bothered with this, so it’s not worthing going into.

I’m only offering this hosting price to my friends and family. For those wanting corporate hosting I only do this for clients I have a create/professional role with. If anyone has any questions please shoot me an email.

If you have never seen the CSS work of Stu then you are missing out. He has numerous examples of pure CSS vertical and horiztonal navigation samples. After looking at his CSS demos I decided to try and combine an CSS vertical dropdown with a CSS horizontal dropdown. How both? It’s very simple. My original idea came about because of usability concerns about horizontal dropdown menus. The issue is typically to access the subnavigation a user must hover the main nav section and then move down and the to the left or right to reach the desired subnavigation link. Because CSS won’t let you do any type of hover delay, if a person moves diagonal to try and shortcut to a subnav the hover state is lost and the nav dissappears… only to force the user to begin the process over.

To try and resove the issue I combined this reasoning to why a regular CSS vertical dropdown menu is a quicker navigation. So if you are in an active section the subnav is a dropdown horizontal menu. If you hover over a primary nav which is not the active section the the dropdown switches to a vertical. The joy of this method is it allows you to show the active sections submenu all the time, while also allowing for the easier vertical dropdowns in the other sections. The secret lies in the class=”unselected” vs class=”selected”. This is what switches from the vertical vs horizontal submenu.

Nothing super exciting? Well considering it works in IE6, IE7, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. I’ve very pleased. Yes there are a few hacks for the IE browsers. To be honest with the introduction of IE7 which is more CSS compliant but still behind the curve, the trend of a few hacks will continue for some time.

I believe by now Stu (his CSS Menu demos) has come up with original versions of the basic horizontal and vertical dropdown navigations demos that a more universal for all browsers. I haven’t specificallly checked to see if my version can be simplified to adopt these changes or not.

Again I thank Stu for his wonder CSS menu work.

View my hybrid CSS navigation demo.
