1965 Fastback K Code
Some of you know that I have a red 1965 K Code Fastback Mustang GT with 58,000 original miles. After over a month of neglect because of the holidays and the funeral of my father I attempted to get the car out. Afterall, it’s January and 75 out! Why not go for cruise. It’s the perfect weather to break out thost nestalgic hot rods of the 50’s and 60’s.
After about 30 minutes of toying with getting the car started and idling at drivable rpm I slowed pulled my Mustang out of the garage. As I eased on the break to prepare for the mountian of driveway, I mistake the clutch for the break because it went straight to the floor. So I quicked pushed the next pedal to the floor the realize at my dismay that this one too went to the floor! I had no brakes. As I quickly jerked the steering wheel in hopes of not running into the house across the way and hoping to coast up the alley a bit to slow down, I slammed into what I thought was the brick retaining wall that held the neighors trash cans. Mind you right in front of the wall are two gas meters. As I slammed in to the wall a million thoughts went through my head. Most I was visualizing how I just tore about the backend of my original K Code Mustang. I managed to coast to a stop and calmly got out of my car to asses the damage. Miraculiously the lazy neighors or trashmen had placed the big rubber trashcan in front of the wall and two gas meters. I had actually just bounced of the trashcan with very little damage to the car and no damage to the wall or gas meters.
My mother was around the corner walking the dog and came running to see what all the noise was about. Thankfully the car was ok, and the only damage I managed to do was a big dent in the plastic trashcan and a small indention in my lower rear panel. Oh yea and I also bent my 1965 liscense plates. The event ended a lot better then it could have and I slowly pulled the Mustang back in the garage for another day.
